    The voltage injection method is a powerful technique for diagnosing faults in power rails. Here’s my perspective:

    • Current Behavior as an Indicator: When injecting voltage into a suspected faulty rail, the current draw is crucial. If minimal or no current is drawn, it often means the rail is open—possibly due to a damaged component like a broken trace, faulty capacitor, or defective MOSFET. If the current spikes abnormally, it may indicate a short circuit.
    • Tracing Shorts: High current consumption upon voltage injection can help pinpoint shorted components. Coupling this technique with thermal analysis (like using isopropyl alcohol or thermal cameras) speeds up the identification of overheating elements.
    • Controlled Voltage Application: Careful regulation of voltage is critical. Overvoltage risks damaging healthy components, so it’s best to start with a low voltage and gradually increase as needed.
    • Power Rail Integrity: If a power rail fails to draw expected current, deeper investigation into nearby ICs, buck converters, or even the system’s main power management chip is necessary to uncover hidden faults.
